ExCom & Succession
Executive Committee Formation
If the Board is the Engine Room of the General Assembly then the ExCom is the Engine Room of the Board. The Executive Committee (ExCom) is the forum where the board approved strategies are cascaded, implemented and executed. The ExCom needs to operate using tools and techniques that allow them to reach the highest efficiency and effectiveness in implementing and monitoring the strategy, fill gaps in the control environment, mitigating risks and discuss culture related issues to ensure maintaining a positive and productive working environment.
Challenges to identify talents has always been on top of any organization’s dilemma, not to mention the bigger challenge to retain them. LOGIC adopts a methodical approach to form executive committees for clients, based on its core and critical support functions. Following the ExCom positions’ identification, the consulting team alongside the CEO, to match the existing individuals and their abilities to fill the identified seats. Occasionally, the current position holder does not have enough experience or the required qualifications to fulfill the role, he/she will occupy the position temporarily until a qualified person is hired.
The ExCom Capacity Building
Based on LOGIC Consulting capacity building approach, we ensure that the members of the ExCom members are aligned on their roles and their responsibilities towards the Board of Directors. This is done through presenting the ExCom charter which includes; scope, roles, Responsibilities, and, Authorities, in addition to the, critical topics that are usually discussed in ExCom meetings, and, meeting dynamics; i.e., regularity, meeting invitation, meeting minutes, voting and decision making mechanism. Over-and-above, ExCom members are enrolled in the ECM (Executive Committee Members) Program over a duration of 5 days, covering the following modules:
Forming Executive Committee, Effective Meetings, Aligning & Cascading the Business Strategy, Driving Organization Performance through KPIs, Establishing PMO & SMO, Identifying & Mitigating Risks, Organization Culture, Corporate Performance & Dash Boards.
Succession has always been a key pillar in ensuring businesses are sustainable. It also reassures investors and strategic partners of the organization’s business continuity, in the absence of the owner or the leader in charge. Succession is a topic highly advocated, discussed and monitored on a board level. The critical jobs for succession is topped by the CEO job, yet the Chairman, and all the CEO’s direct reports, stand at no less of an importance than the CEO. Succession planning is usually dependent on the maturity of the HR systems of the company and its talent strategies, part of which succession plans need to be tightly integrated. LOGIC presents succession guidelines to the HR managers of organizations, which serves as a step-by-step guide during the succession journey, ensuring all steps, tasks, stakeholders, incurred costs, reports and other factors are well considered during the succession planning process by all stakeholders.
